Heritage Foundation in CRISIS as Leadership Defends Tucker Carlson's Nazi Sympathizer Interview

The Heritage Foundation, America's premier conservative think tank and architect of Project 2025, is experiencing unprecedented internal turmoil after President Kevin Roberts publicly defended Tucker Carlson's decision to platform neo-Nazi influencer Nick Fuentes, triggering mass resignations and calls for leadership change.

The controversy erupted after former Fox News host Tucker Carlson conducted a two-hour interview with Nick Fuentes, a white nationalist and Holocaust denier who has made numerous antisemitic statements and promotes far-right extremist ideology. Rather than condemning Carlson's decision to give Fuentes a massive platform, Roberts released a video statement defending his "close friend" and attacking what he called a "venomous coalition" trying to cancel the conservative commentator.

"The Heritage Foundation didn't become the intellectual backbone of the conservative movement by canceling our own people or policing the consciences of Christians, and we won't start doing that now."

Roberts' statement provoked immediate backlash from both within and outside the organization. At least five members of Heritage's National Task Force to Combat Antisemitism have resigned in protest, along with Roberts' chief of staff Ryan Neuhaus and longtime senior fellow Stephen Moore. Multiple Jewish organizations, including the Zionist Organization of America, have withdrawn their participation in Heritage Foundation initiatives until Roberts apologizes and cuts ties with Carlson.

During an all-staff meeting that devolved into open confrontation, Heritage employees demanded Roberts' resignation and questioned his fitness to lead the organization. According to leaked audio, some staff members compared those leaking information about the crisis to "Judas"—an ironic biblical reference given the antisemitism controversy. Roberts eventually admitted he "made a mistake" and "let down this institution," but many within Heritage believe the damage to the organization's reputation is IRREPARABLE.

Nick Fuentes is known for promoting "groyper" ideology—a white nationalist movement that seeks to preserve what adherents call America's "white, European identity and culture." Fuentes has openly denied the Holocaust, made viciously antisemitic statements, and promoted conspiracy theories reminiscent of Nazi propaganda. His followers, called "groypers," have infiltrated conservative events to push extremist views into mainstream Republican discourse.

Republican lawmakers and conservative leaders have condemned Roberts' handling of the situation. Senator Ted Cruz publicly criticized the Heritage president's response, while multiple conservative commentators expressed dismay that a leading conservative institution would defend platforming a Holocaust denier. The controversy has raised fundamental questions about where the conservative movement draws the line on extremism and whether anti-cancel culture principles should extend to neo-Nazis.

Roberts attempted damage control by issuing a follow-up statement denouncing Fuentes' "vicious antisemitic ideology" and "Holocaust denial," but critics argue his initial defense of Carlson revealed his true priorities. The chief of staff who resigned, Ryan Neuhaus, had inflamed tensions by posting on social media that Heritage employees who were "virtue signaling" over the controversy should resign if "so outraged," calling such departures "addition by subtraction for the institution."

The crisis at Heritage comes at a CRITICAL moment for conservatives. The organization spearheaded Project 2025, the comprehensive policy blueprint for President Trump's second administration, making Heritage's credibility essential to conservative governance. With resignations mounting and major Jewish organizations severing ties, the question now is whether Roberts can salvage the organization's reputation—or whether Heritage's tolerance for extremism has permanently damaged its standing as the intellectual center of American conservatism. The answer may determine the future direction of the conservative movement itself.
