Cuomo WARNS: Socialism Spells NYC's DEATH

Article image

Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo issued a stark warning to voters that socialist policies championed by mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani would mark the death of New York City as the world knows it, destroying the economic engine that has made the city a global powerhouse.

Speaking to the general public, Cuomo argued that the socialist movement driving Mamdani's campaign threatens to drive businesses out of the city while gutting public safety. The former Democratic governor is running as an independent candidate after losing the Democratic primary to Mamdani in a stunning upset, and now finds himself in a three-way race against Mamdani and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa.

"It's going to be the death of New York as we know it whether you're a Democrat or Republican."

Throughout the campaign, Cuomo has positioned himself as the counter to Mamdani's democratic socialist agenda, which includes rent freezes, raising the minimum wage to thirty dollars per hour, and establishing government-run grocery stores. Cuomo pointed to the canceled Amazon headquarters project that would have brought twenty-five thousand jobs to the city, arguing that socialists stopped the deal and demonstrated their fundamental hostility toward business.

Mamdani, who represents a state assembly district in Queens, plans to fund his ambitious agenda by raising the corporate tax rate and imposing a two percent tax on New Yorkers earning more than one million dollars annually. Cuomo warned that such tax increases would be a death knell for a city where corporations and wealthy individuals already face some of the highest tax burdens in the nation.

The former governor emphasized that New York City is the capitalist capital of the country and needs to attract entrepreneurs and talent rather than drive them away with punitive taxation and anti-business rhetoric. He argued that business serves as the engine driving opportunity and growth, representing the essence of the American dream.

Cuomo also criticized what he characterized as the far left's anti-police agenda, claiming it has led to increased crime rates and fewer officers on the streets protecting New Yorkers. He pledged to add five thousand new police officers to the force, including fifteen hundred specifically assigned to patrol subway systems where crime has become a major concern for commuters.

The race has drawn national attention as a referendum on the direction of the Democratic Party, with Mamdani receiving endorsements from Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Bernie Sanders. Cuomo argues that Mamdani, who had the worst attendance record in the state assembly and has never held a real job, lacks the experience necessary to manage a city with a budget larger than most states and complex challenges ranging from housing affordability to infrastructure maintenance.
